DAAD’s current In-Country/In-Region call lists development-related master’s opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa with a 12 November 2026 application deadline. These are regional study awards, not scholarships to move to Germany.
Who can apply?
Applicants are graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa seeking a selected master’s programme in their home/residence country or another eligible country in the region. The programme targets future higher-education teaching and research careers.
Funding and benefits
Support generally includes monthly funding, tuition, study/research allowance and thesis-publication costs. In-Region recipients also have travel and health-insurance support. Exact amounts depend on the host programme call.
How to apply and important dates
Choose an institution and degree from the currently open list, then follow its specific DAAD and university instructions. The database includes options in Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi and Burkina Faso.
Documents and preparation
Download the exact host-programme call before preparing documents. Confirm academic, residence, language and admission requirements for that degree.
Before you submit
Make a personal checklist from the official instructions. Check that your name matches your identity documents, that uploaded files are readable and that your referees have enough time. Save a copy of your submission and its confirmation. If the provider changes its announcement, follow its current instructions rather than an older listing.
Frequently asked question
Can I apply to every university in Africa through this award?
No. Funding is limited to the listed selected programmes and their individual eligibility rules.
