ETH Zurich has announced its Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme for students beginning a master’s degree in autumn 2027. Applications run from 1 to 30 November 2026. This is an upcoming window, not an application round already open on 25 October.
Who can apply?
Applicants should have outstanding bachelor’s results, normally within the top 10% of their cohort. Students already enrolled in an ETH master’s programme or holding a master’s degree are not eligible.
Funding and benefits
The published autumn-2027 package is CHF 13,500 per semester and a tuition-fee waiver, normally for three or four semesters. ETH expects around 60 awards for 2027/28.
How to apply and important dates
Apply through ETH’s master’s application system during the November window and select ESOP. Submit an original preliminary master’s thesis proposal. Check the official closing time carefully: ETH’s application dates page specifies 30 November at 11:59 AM CET, before noon.
Documents and preparation
Prepare the admission documents, thesis pre-proposal and academic references. If the degree application does not request references, ESOP requires two professor referees.
Before you submit
Make a personal checklist from the official instructions. Check that your name matches your identity documents, that uploaded files are readable and that your referees have enough time. Save a copy of your submission and its confirmation. If the provider changes its announcement, follow its current instructions rather than an older listing.
Frequently asked question
Can I reuse someone else’s research proposal?
No. ETH requires an independently written proposal and checks originality.
